kW, kWh, and range explained simply

Power, energy, and range are related, but they answer different questions. Mixing them up makes every electric listing harder to compare.

kW, kWh, and range explained simply

kW, kWh, and range explained simply is easier to judge when you look at real use, not only the figures in the advert. This guide covers what to check, which numbers matter, and where buyers usually go wrong.

Quick check

  • Compare the numbers with your usual route and budget.
  • Ask for documents instead of a verbal promise.
  • Leave a reserve in range, time, and money.

kW is power

Kilowatts describe how strongly the car can accelerate or how quickly a charger can add energy. They are not the size of the battery.

kWh is energy

Kilowatt-hours are the fuel tank. A larger usable pack can travel farther, but only if the car is not much heavier or hungrier.

Range is a result

Official range is a lab figure. Cold weather, motorway speed, and cabin heating can cut the real number more than the brochure suggests.

Compare like with like

When two cars quote different range tests, use battery size, consumption, and your usual route instead of the single headline number.
